About the Course

The NPSF Online CE/CME Patient Safety Curriculum is a 10-module, online course designed to provide the foundational knowledge necessary to understand the context, key principles, and competencies associated with the discipline of patient safety, and how these tenets and skills are applied in everyday practice. Currently in its second edition, this course features exciting topics such as: patient safety across the continuum of care, the joy and meaning of work and workforce safety, and an introduction to human factors and simulation.

This is the first externally produced national patient safety program accepted for consideration since the ABMS® Patient Safety Courses were discontinued in 2012, when ABMS decided to replace its proprietary programs with select offerings available in the marketplace. Many of the ABMS Member Boards have accepted the NPSF program to satisfy ABMS Maintenance of Certification® (ABMS MOC®) requirements for a Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment Patient Safety Activity.

Through the American Board of Medical Specialties ("ABMS") ongoing commitment to increase access to practice relevant Maintenance of Certification ("MOC") Activities through the ABMS Continuing Certification Directory, the NPSF Patient Safety Curriculum has met the requirements as an MOC Part II CME Activity (apply toward general CME requirement) and/or an MOC Part II Self-Assessment Activity for the following ABMS Member Boards:

MOC Part II CME Activity
Family Medicine
Plastic Surgery
Psychiatry & Neurology

MOC Part II SA
Allergy and Immunology
Anesthesiology
Colon & Rectal Surgery
Medical Genetics and Genomics
Nuclear Medicine
Opthalmology
Pathology
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Preventive Medicine
Radiology
Thoracic Surgery
Urology

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 10 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
