Inaugural Funder of the Institute

 

The NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Medtronic Safety Culture & Technology Innovator Award, announced in April 2017, recognizes individuals and teams who have demonstrated extraordinary and innovative initiatives to drive successful implementation of technology through culture change. Winning submissions will demonstrate critical cultural interventions that enabled and led to successful technology adoption with measurable impact on patient, family, and workforce safety.

 

About the Award

Two awards will be conferred during the Annual Lucian Leape Institute Forum & Keynote Dinner on September 28, 2017. One award will be given to an exemplary individual and the other to an exemplary team.

Award recipients will receive:

  • Award and certificate of achievement
  • Complimentary registration for awardee and one guest (or two team members) to the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner
  • Complimentary travel to the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner for the awardee or one team representative (based on NPSF travel guidelines)
  • Recognition in associated media coverage of the LLI Forum & Keynote Dinner

Nomination Submission Requirements

Nominations must detail personal or team dedication to the implementation of a technological innovation or process improvement that positively impacts the safety of patients and/or the workforce. All submissions must be brand agnostic and may not identify the manufacturer of specific model of technology. Each submission should answer the following questions in approximately 200 words each:

Questions for individual submissions:

  1. Please describe the organizational challenge your work addressed.
  2. What is the type of technology or process innovation that you have utilized or adapted (please do not provide brand)?
  3. How did you influence the organizational leadership to successfully implement the technology or process change?
  4. What critical cultural components did you develop or leverage to embed and sustain improvement? (E.g., How did your current organizational culture support you? What changes to culture were necessary for successful implementation?)
  5. Please describe how you measured the degree and sustainability of improvements on patient and/or workforce safety.
  6. How might your success be transferred and replicated in other health care organizations?

The 2017 call for nominations for the individual award has closed.

 

Questions for team submissions:

  1. Please describe the organizational challenge the team’s work addressed.
  2. What is the type of technology or process innovation that the team utilized or adapted (please do not provide brand)?
  3. How did the team involve and/or influence the organizational leadership to successfully implement the technology or process change?
  4. What critical cultural components did the team develop or leverage to embed and sustain improvement? (E.g., How did the current organizational culture support you? What changes to culture were necessary for successful implementation?)
  5. Please describe how the team measured the degree and sustainability of improvements on patient and/or workforce safety.
  6. How might this success be transferred and replicated in other health care organizations?

The 2017 call for nominations for the team award has closed.

Award Selection

Award recipients will be chosen by a panel of judges who will evaluate each nomination for the project's impact on improvement to patient or workforce safety, evidence of sustainability of improvement initiative, and potential to transfer the process or technological innovation to other individuals or organizations, among other criteria.
